End of Chapter 3: Free Romance Novel One Post a Day
Bob stopped at the bait shop where he picked up two cokes. He took my hand and led me down a trail to the river bank. “I’m going to show you the most spectacular little cove along the river. Someday, if that land is ever for sale, I dream of building a house with a dock for a boat and enjoying the surroundings every day of my life.”
The anticipation and excitement of his dream made him smile and his eyes sparkled like a little boy on Christmas morning.
We must have walked for miles. Birds seemed to be hovering over us all along the way and hungry fish were jumping out in the deep water. The scenery was so peaceful and pristine, it was difficult to imagine that down the river and over the sea, bombs were exploding and people were dying.
Water lapped on the shore; here and there ducks wobbled ashore and made their way up the grassy knolls.
“They probably have eggs up there. In a few weeks, there’ll be ducklings out swimming with their mothers,” he said.
We finally reached the cove with its smooth white sand and spectacular view of the river. We sat for a while and just enjoyed each other’s company. We openly discussed our childhoods, our hopes, our dreams — things that we feared and things that we cherished. We were just two people being ourselves, sharing our desires and our needs, fully realizing that tomorrow may never come for us to fulfill our plans.
